Subaru Appeal For Japan Cycle Relay
WIN A CAR AND PROVIDE ESSENTIAL AID
Assisting a national crisis tens of thousands miles away from your own doorstep is not normally within a Middlesbrough-based car dealership’s remit but Derek Slack Motors, has joined a national competition to help the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, with the top prize being a brand-new 2.5-litre Subaru Legacy Outback.
The Subaru Appeal For Japan Cycle Relay commenced at Subaru UK’s headquarters in Coleshill, Birmingham, on Monday, August 1st, when the company founder, Lord Edmiston, gave his full support to the event by cycling the first leg of the journey, to his nearest participating Subaru dealership. Derek Slack Motors received two bicycles and the safety car on Tuesday from Alexandra Cars of Newcastle, prior to Derek Slack Subaru’s Dealer Principal, Tony Slack (pictured right), and the company’s Marketing Manager, Keith Palmer (pictured centre), cycling 30 miles to SG Petch Subaru in North Yorkshire.
Tony explained, “We are aware that the disaster in North East Japan has slipped from the national news headlines but the aftermath of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck, earlier this year, continues to pose serious challenges to its people. At Derek Slack Subaru, we are proud to support a national cycling event to help raise awareness. Not only are we selling tickets for the top prize of a new Subaru Outback but we are also able to take donations separately, with the charity taking full advantage of Gift Aid.”
The relay is continuing throughout the entire Subaru UK network and will culminate on 21st October, with participating dealership staff having cycled a marathon 3,500 miles.
Keith elaborated, “Our participation on the relay is to support the sterling work that the Association of Aid and Relief (AAR) in Japan is doing in providing mobile medical clinics for the most vulnerable people, who cannot reach hospital for medical care themselves.”
Derek Slack Subaru will continue to sell tickets for the competition until Friday, 12th of December. The prize winner will be notified by the 19th of December, just in time for them to be driving their brand-new Subaru for Christmas.
